Heat

In this picture there is one thing that I think is beautiful and the other not so much. I love the look of huskies. They are beautiful dogs. Snow on the other hand, If I never saw snow again I don’t know if that would hurt my feelings.

Right now it is snowing like crazy where I live. It’s 28 degrees and roads are slick. I am thankful that I am in a heated building even if it is at work.

There are plenty of people across this country and even here in my own town that sleep outside. They are homeless for one reason or another. Some might choose to be homeless, but most don’t. They would love to have a place warm and will go to any length to get it. Some will sleep in entryways to apartment complexes until some calls the police. Some might get intoxicated thinking the booze will keep them warm. All it really does in causes them not to feel what the cold is doing to their bodies. They might even pass out. It is a recipe for death.

What is worse is when a person’s heart is colder than the snowball that hits you in the face. Some people’s hearts are cold by choice, other people’s hearts are cold because of the hand that life dealt them, but there is hope. You can warm up. Just like I know the snow will melt away, in time, I know a person can have their heart warmed.

This is what happened to John Wesley, who lived in the 1700’s and is the “founder” of the United Methodist Church. He described his heart as being strangely warmed. This is when he knew that Jesus Christ had died for him. The warming of his heart caused him to be the leader of a renewal that kept England from a revolution like that of the French.

You probably won’t keep a country from ripping itself apart but then again with the power of Christ anything is possible. But, first you need a warm heart.
